Kindergarten Parent Orientation will be on August 6, from 10:00-11:00. This meeting will be for PARENTS ONLY.  Your kindergartener is invited to visit the classroom and meet his/her teacher between 1:00-3:00 on Thursday, August 6. 

K-5th grade Visitation for students and parents will be on August 6 from 1:00-3:00.  Please locate your child's name on the teacher rosters that will be placed in the atrium.

Due to construction, WDE’s main office will be relocated in the Kindergarten hallway during the summer.  Visitors may park in the pick-up/drop-off area and enter through the Kindergarten doors at the end of the building.  This is the parking lot across from the Little League Park at the WDE school sign.

Summer Reading Program

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,


Welcome to summer and reading for pleasure!  The faculty at West DeFuniak Elementary believes that reading is an important part of every student’s life, and not to mention a lot of FUN! Reading over the summer, in particular, prevents students from losing the reading gains they make during the school year so that students can return to school next year with a fresh start, ready to learn!


Goals and Program

WDE sponsors a Summer Reading Program for all students entering grades 1-5.  The goals of the program are to foster a love of reading, to promote independent reading and to ensure that your child’s reading skills are maintained at their current level.  This summer reading program is optional but strongly supported by our administration and teachers.


To participate in the Summer Reading Program, we require all students to read a minimum of five books at their reading level.  The website is a great resource to help determine if the book level is appropriate.


To complete the Summer Reading Program students will turn in to the office or Media Center their five book reports, on the forms provided, by August 11th, when students return.


The WDE Reading Hall of Fame recognizes students who read beyond the required number of books. Ten or more books are required to be in the “Hall of Fame”. WDE Reading Hall of Fame students must also complete a book report for each book, 5 through 10 and turn in by August 11th.


Finding the Books

The Walton County Library and our local book stores have many great reading selections.  Either will be glad to assist you in finding the perfect books for summer reading! We hope that our Summer Reading Program will give students and their families an opportunity to share and enjoy summer reading.

For your convenience, vendors will be on the WDE campus to sale uniform shirts this summer on the dates listed below.  Vendors will be located in the Music Room.

The Awards Program will be held in the Activity Building.  

Friday, May 22, will be a FREE DRESS DAY!  Students do not have to wear their uniform shirts, but they must still dress within the Walton County School District dress code. 

Uniform Donations

May 1, 2015

WDE is gladly accepting gently used uniform shirts that your child(ren) has outgrown.  These shirts may be dropped off in the office.  WDE sincerely thanks you for this donation!

YEARBOOKS:  Yearbooks will be in any day now.  If you have not already purchased one, it's not too late!  Supplies will be limited.  The cost is $25.00 and they will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.  

LUNCHROOM:  Money deposited in student accounts should be used before the end of the school year as money does not need to be carried over or refunded.  If you are in doubt of your child's account status, please contact Mrs. Kimberly Moreno in the lunchroom at 892-1250, ext 2515 between the hours of 8:30-10:00 or 1:00-2:00.  

LOST AND FOUND:  If your child has lost clothing articles, lunch boxes, etc, please stop by the office and we will show you to our "Lost and Found:.  Any items not claimed by the last day of school will be donated to charity.  

1st grade got a special visit from Mrs. Armstrong and her amazing rock collection!  She taught them about all sorts of different rocks and gems.  Birthstones, petrified wood, geodes and more!  The students got to view her collection and they even got to leave with a little rock of their own to keep.  A big thank you to Mrs. Armstrong for taking the time out of her day to come share her hobby with our students!
