Last week, 2nd grade teachers at WDE flipped their classrooms into an exciting Ellis Island Experience. Students were able to role play to simulate what it might have been like living as an immigrant child. Students completed a class immigration card, went through a pretend medical exam, visited the “hospital” if they needed to, went through immigration questioning, and finally, students met the Statue of Liberty as they entered into the United States! Students at WDE enjoyed being fully immersed in the Ellis Island Experience, which helped them to better understand immigration, and how important Ellis Island was.
