ECSC 1

Third grade students at West DeFuniak Elementary enjoyed an exciting, hands-on science experience this week thanks to a visit from the Emerald Coast Science Center. The program brought learning to life as students explored the inner workings of flowers using both augmented reality technology and a real dissection activity.

Students examined the major parts of a flower—such as petals, stamens, pistils, and sepals—and learned how each structure helps the plant survive and reproduce. AR tools allowed them to zoom in on details they normally couldn’t see, while the dissection gave them the chance to identify each part up close.

This interactive lesson helped students connect classroom science standards to real-world biology. By observing, questioning, and investigating, they strengthened their understanding of how living things grow and thrive.

The school is grateful to the Emerald Coast Science Center for providing such an engaging and memorable learning experience.
