Rocks

Our 4th grade scientists have been hard at work exploring the fascinating world of rocks and minerals! Students learned how rocks and minerals form and how they change and move over time. They examined different types of minerals and, through hands-on tests and careful observations, classified their own mineral samples like true geologists. To bring their learning to life, students even grew their own crystals to see how minerals can form! After studying rock movement, they created models to demonstrate weathering and erosion. Using cookies, students showed weathering by breaking them into smaller pieces. Then, they used water to move the pieces, modeling how erosion carries sediment from one place to another. These engaging, hands-on activities made science come alive, and our students loved every minute of learning about rocks and minerals!
