3rd Grade 1

Our third grade scientists explored energy in action this week as they modeled sound energy and investigated how mechanical energy can affect an object. Using simple materials, students created drum models by stretching plastic wrap over containers and sprinkling sand on top. They discovered that sound is a form of energy we can hear, and by applying mechanical energy—tapping or drumming—they produced vibrations that caused the sand to jump and move. This hands-on investigation helped students see how energy transfers from one form to another, turning an abstract concept into an engaging, memorable learning experience.
