Our 2nd-grade classes at WDE have been learning all about the Scientific Method through hands-on experiments. Mrs. Fuentes’s 2nd graders discovered the magic of science with a fizzy experiment! The students got a firsthand look at the exciting world of science by conducting a fun and fizzy experiment. Using simple ingredients—baking soda and vinegar—the young scientists explored the reaction between an acid and a base, creating bubbles and fizz right before their eyes!
Mrs. Ellis’s and Mrs. Dickey’s classes explored chemical reactions using ordinary liquid solutions—hot water, cold water, vinegar, oil, and soda—to discover which would dissolve and change the candy the fastest. The scientific scholars were mesmerized by the chemical reactions that occurred with the candy.
These hands-on activities helped students learn about the scientific method as they made predictions, conducted experiments, observed the results, and drew conclusions. “It was amazing to see the bubbles form,” said one excited student. This interactive lesson sparks curiosity and encourages young learners to ask questions and think like scientists!
