West DeFuniak Elementary recently transformed into Ellis Island for 2nd grade students. Students were able to role play as they experienced the life of an immigrant child. They completed a class immigration card, went through a medical exam, visited the hospital if they needed to, went through immigration questioning, and finally, met the Statue of Liberty as they were admitted into the United States! Students enjoyed being fully immersed in the Ellis Island experience, which helped them understand immigration, and the significance of Ellis Island.
