Two-Column Note-Taking in Ms. Adams' Class

Two-Column Note-Taking is an AVID strategy that helps students to identify important information in a reading passage and respond to that material. This week, Ms. Adams used this strategy to prepare students to participate in a discussion about Florida history. Through her fourth-grade students’ use of two-column notes, Ms. Adams was able to identify students’ misunderstandings and questions about the topic and to evaluate students’ overall comprehension of the reading material. In AVID Elementary, two-column notes provide the organizational structure that lays the foundation for focused note-taking in later grades
