329 Dads attended school at MSE September 22nd

Maude Saunders welcomed 329 Dads to school on September 22nd as part of Florida’s State Initiative to get fathers involved in their children’s academic life. The dads at Maude Saunders helped plant vegetables and herbs, built diaramas, created solar systems, built boats and planes, launched rockets, simulated oil spills, and much more. Several Walton County Sheriff’s deputies also participated as male role models to students whose dads were unable to attend. Submitted by Krisy Spence.
Rosemary Beach Foundation Recognized WCSD Art Teachers for their Participation in Music in Pictures

The Rosemary Beach Foundation recognized district art teachers and schools for their participation in the 2016-2017 annual “Music in Pictures” program, which is a year-long educational art initiative for all students in grades K-12. Mossy Head School Reading Night

Mossy Head School hosted their annual Title 1 meeting and Reading Night on September 22nd. Parents visited activity stations with their children and were given different strategies to use at home to help their child reach their reading goals. Safety Patrol Students at Van R. Butler are Learning How to Take the Florida Flag and United States Flag Down

Safety Patrol students at Van R. Butler are learning how to take the Florida flag and United States flag down, as well as up each day. These students work hard to show that they are ready for the extra responsibilities. Safety Patrol members are fourth grade students that are chosen by the PE department. These are students that have shown that they take initiative and always do the right thing. Other duties among this group include helping at Primary drop off in the morning to help the little ones get out of vehicles. They also help in the cafeteria at breakfast. In addition to all of these, the students learn how to raise and lower the flags each day and fold them correctly. This semester’s Safety Patrol includes Ana Flores, Karissa Garcia, JJ Karakorn, Caidyn Parnell, Beckett Rhea, Haleigh Roberson, Sara Smith, Spring Starkey, and Carlin Watson. SWHS Receives Grant from St. Joe Community Foundation

Seahawk Baseball was the recipient of a $9,000.00 grant from the St. Joe Community Foundation. The team will use the funds to purchase two pitching machines, some screens for the batting cage, and other equipment to help improve the baseball facility. Accepting the donation are Athletic Director Phil Tisa, Adam Richards, Head Coach Nick Borthwick, Paul Stoppert, Hunter Crawley, Tyler Holland, Janet Greeno from St. Joe Community Foundation, Assistant Principal Jimmy Ross and Principal Dr. Alexis Tibbetts.
