MSE 4th grade teachers Jessica Anderson and Cheryl Carroll wrote and submitted a grant on 7/11/16. The grant is to help provide funding for tablets for 4th grade students at Maude Sanders Elementary. The grant was approved and MSE 4th grade teachers were presented with a giant check at the November 1st board meeting by Janet Greeno, Executive Director of St. Joe's Community Foundation division. WHS Marching Braves Accolades

The Marching Braves were represented well on Nov. 3, as several students were accepted into the first ever Baptist College of Florida Honor Band! These students worked with some of the best musicians from schools in surrounding counties to put together an "All Star" band concert. A DVD of the performance was created and will be sent to WHS soon.
Our students rehearsed all morning and were then fed by BCF and had an opportunity to walk the campus before putting on a great performance. Our students were the only representatives from Walton County, and they did a superb job. Submitted by Christy English.

Bay Elementary School is proud to announce the BES Students of the Month. Khloe Jennings and Stratton Thede have been selected to represent BES as the November Kiwanis Club Students of the Month. Both students will be honored at a special breakfast sponsored by the Freeport Kiwanis Club at the Coastal Branch Library in Santa Rosa Beach, November 16th. Submitted by Cindy Stewart.

WDE Receives Grant for MakerSpace
November 4, 2016
West DeFuniak has received a $1000 grant from the National Defense Industrial Association. Fifty-five educators from Walton, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Escambia counties received these awards at the Air Force Armament Museum on November 2. Mrs. Tammy Goodman will use the grant to purchase Lego WeDo for the MakerSpace Club. Students will build Lego robots and then be able to manipulate them through the use of a tablet. We look forward to using these new tools to help students learn about programming and engineering in a creative way. Sounds like it's time to put those problem solving skills to work!
Creativity Is Making Marvelous of the Discarded at WMS

WMS students learn the value of recycling in Mrs. Katlyn Arnold's Art classes. In recent weeks, students have been utilizing recycled materials when learning about history and the world around them. For instance, in one project, students created recycled cardboard heads that resemble inspiring people who changed the world, such as Martin Luther King, Jr., Gandhi, Einstein, and Bob Marley, among others. In a separate project, students created cardboard self-portraits. In Mrs. Arnold's class, students enjoy conserving resources while combining their imagination and knowledge. BES 3rd & 4th graders were excited to participate in the Studies Weekly 2016 Nationwide Mock Presidential Election. Students researched each candidate, they learned how to compare and contrast, then they cast their vote! Naked Egg Experiments at WMS

On November 3rd, students in Ms. Kathy Russ' science class at WMS learned how chemical reactions occur by conducting a naked egg experiment. The students soaked eggs in vinegar to cause the shells to be eaten away. The eggs became rubberized and even bounced! Mrs. Russ' students were proud to explain and show off the results of their experiments. Submitted by Kristen Rhodes.
Superintendent Anderson visits ECMS Science Fair

WCSD Superintendent Mrs. Anderson made a visit to Emerald Coast Middle School and stopped by the ECMS 2016 Science Fair led by Mrs. Nancy Parker. 8th Grade students were being interviewed about their projects by volunteers. Winners will be announced later this week.
