Under the direction of Mrs. Kristy West, students from Walton Middle School's Career class delivered Christmas cheer to Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center residents.  Beforehand, students donated items to fill over forty gift baskets.  On Thursday, December 15th, the class hand-delivered the baskets during the center's annual Christmas party.  The experience was a rewarding experience for both students and residents. During the weeks of November 28th-December 14th, WDE students were challenged to earn as many 100’s on Accelerated Reader tests as possible. The catch was students were working for a reward for their teacher! Mr. Andy Stafford, a fifth grade teacher, was the recipient of a car detail cleaning! His students made 100% on 515 books during that time. That was an average of 24.5 tests per student. During that time, WDE earned close to 5,000  points for AR. Congratulations to all of the students and teachers! Submitted by Jessica Dawkins.

4th grade students in Mrs. McLaney and Mrs. Adams’ classes participated in the Pirates Christmas program on December 13, 2016.  The play was about Santa and his Elves taking a well-deserved vacation from the North Pole to their “Island Christmas”. When out of nowhere Pirates come and surround them singing “Pirates All Are We”. These pirates know nothing about Christmas and end up hitching a ride with Santa to the North Pole to plunder his treasure only to find that Christmas is a time of giving, not taking. Once these pirates grasp the “true” meaning of Christmas they are able to participate in singing Blimey Carols and have A Pirates’ Christmas.
