Captain Meriwether Lewis Visits West DeFuniak Elementary School!

Mr. Moni Boling presented a character re-enactment of the famous explorer, Captain Meriwether Lewis, at West DeFuniak Elementary school.  Mr. Boling brought with him a several replica artifacts of the period, to include a non-firing flint-lock long rifle and an assortment of medical supplies.    Mr. Boling took the students through an interactive adventure of the Lewis and Clark Expedition with the Corps of Discovery.  Students assumed the roles of different members of the expedition and learned about the trials and hardships during the journey.  Mr. Boling’s visit was sponsored by the Florida Chautauqua Association as part of their Winter Assembly educational activities.  Submitted by Keitha Bledsoe.

Superintendent Russell Hughes Honors 2016-2017 District Offices TOY and ESPOY Winners

Superintendent Hughes gave special recognition to the Teacher of the Year and the Educational Support Professional selected by the District Offices.  Megan Dailey, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst with the district, received the Teacher of the Year award.  Sue Brack, with 27 years as a bookkeeper in the district, received the Educational Support Professional of the Year award.

Paxton School Recognizes First Responder Week

In honor of our Florida First Respondents Appreciation Week, Paxton students presented the school resource officer, Caleb Davidson with hand-made "thank you" cards. PHS is thankful for Officer Davidson and all of Florida's brave first responders.  Submitted by Kalli McMillan. 

Over 390 Walton County Students attend Sinfonia Gulf Coast’s “Paint the Music” concert!

Over 390 students from the Walton County School District participated in Sinfonia Gulf Coast’s “Paint the Music” on January 20, 2017 at the Destiny Worship Center in Miramar Beach! The event is an interactive art and music project for students in grades 3-8 where the students listen to sound samples of classical music and literally “paint” what they hear.  The students are able to experience the musical selections live with a concert featuring Sinfonia Gulf Coast, and special guest artist this year, violinist Jennifer Koh. ECMS Stingrays & Sinfonia in Sync

Emerald Coast Middle School Art and Music students, 6th-8th grades only, attended a concert sponsored by Sinfonia Gulf Coast on Friday, January 20th at Destiny Worship Center. The “Musical Time Travel” production was part of the Paint the Music interactive arts project, which aims to foster an appreciation for the visual arts and music, while also encouraging students to express their creativity. The concert included performances by Sinfonia Gulf Coast and special guest violinist Jennifer Koh. 2D art students also participated in an art exhibition displayed at the performance. ECMS Kicks Off Florida Literacy Week with "Slam-Dunkin-Stingrays"

At ECMS, Ms. Vance's Media Production Class was treated to a Dunkin Donuts morning to kick of Florida Literacy Week, 2017. Her class demonstrates consistent literacy leadership, talented teamwork and daily stellar performances filming the ECMS Stingray Station News show.

ECMS Student Places at Florida All-State Middle School Honor Band

January 24, 2017

ECMS band member Pia Paval recently participated in the Florida All-State Middle School Honor Band. On January 11, she headed down to Tampa for seating auditions, and was placed at 3rd chair in her section of 12. Pia spent 3 days in Tampa rehearsing with the 125-member band and performed in a final concert on January 14, 2017.
