First graders at WDE had the chance to create their very own timeline as a way of looking back at their personal history. Timelines provide a visual tool for studying a brief period of time - a day, a year, or an individual's life. Researching and creating timelines appeals to students' visual and mathematic  intelligences. This fun-filled activity was a unique way to look back on fond memories and share those memories with others!

In seventh grade math at WMS, Mrs. Kari Ann Kinkey employs a variety of differentiation strategies to ensure ALL students learn.  In a recent lesson, student Nayeli Salgado explained how she solved a problem in both Spanish and English for the benefit of the English language learners in the class.  Students also worked collaboratively, using algebra tile manipulatives, to solve algebraic expressions.  Mrs. Kinkey continually seeks out new methods to ensure math makes sense for  her students.

Congratulations to the South Walton High School SeaHawk Marching Band on their Straight Superior ratings in Band, Percussion, and Color Guard at the Blackwater Classic in Milton, Florida on Saturday, October 6!! Band Director, Robert Escamilla, and Color Guard Instructor, Christin Barnhart are very proud of their EPIC accomplishment in their first competition of the season. They braved the intense heat, and "performed their hearts out" according to Mr. Escamilla!

Mrs. Daniel’s fourth grade students at WDE observed the parts of a flower by dissecting tiger lilies. First, they separated the sepal to discover the protection it provides for the stamen and pistil. Then, they extracted pollen on their fingers from the stamen supporting the concept of pollination. Finally, they located the pistil of the flower in order to understand fertilization.
