A few weeks ago at Paxton, with bad weather fast approaching, it was time for the flags at the front of the school to come down. One of the schools SROs, Officer Shover, had a little help folding them up from PreK student Esaias Brinson. Esaias demonstrating some EPIC PAXTON PRIDE by offering a helping hand when needed. Way to demonstrate your PRIDE, PASSION, and PURPOSE, Esaias!

Walton Middle School invites all students and their families to attend "Hearts for the Arts" Title 1 Parent Training Night this Thursday, February 7, 2019, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  The evening will kick-off in the cafeteria with FREE pizza.  During dinner, families will have the opportunity to enjoy a slideshow of creative artwork by Mrs. Grant's art students.  After eating, parents and students will rotate through three literacy-themed stations, focusing on literature studied in ELA classes, eBooks available in the LMC, the Dave & Buster's school-wide reading challenge, and opportunities to practice FSA and EOC online assessments.  At this time, parents will also have the opportunity to offer meaningful insights about our school by completing our annual parent climate survey.  Childcare will also be available for toddler and school-aged children.  Please make time this week to celebrate literacy and the arts with Walton Middle School!

Congratulations to the Walton High Competition Cheerleading Team for earning 3rd place in the FHSAA State Cheerleading Competition in Gainesville this past weekend.  The Braves were able to perform their routine three times (regionals, semi-finals, and state finals) without receiving any deductions for mistakes.  They were the only all-girl team in the top 3.  Submitted by Christy English

On Thursday, January 24, district literacy coach Mrs. Lynne Martin inspired, educated, and entertained Mrs. Rachel Jones' seventh grade AVID students at Walton Middle School.  Mrs. Martin described herself to students as an "ordinary person who has lived an ordinary life in an extraordinary way."  As a veteran AVID teacher, she emphasized the importance of the AVID program, telling students that it helps set them up for future choices, whether they plan to go to college or trade school or into the military or workforce.  She told students that individuals' paths to success almost never look the same--and that's okay.  She shared the story of her own personal journey--all the schooling, jobs, and experiences she has had along the way.  She told students that thought they may not find their "place" right off the bat and might have to stop and regroup from time to time, they will learn a lot of lessons about being a decent human being during their journeys.  With a gentle and genuine smile, Mrs. Martin looked students in the eye and said, "You'll always come out on top if you're kind."  At the end of her talk, she gave each student a playing card.  Mrs. Martin told students that each card should stand as a reminder that we don't get to choose the cards we are dealt, but we do get to choose how we play those cards.  Each card she passed out was from the suit of hearts, a reminder that when you can be anything, be kind.  By the end of the class period, students were so inspired they applauded Mrs. Martin and asked if they could give her a hug, thanking her for taking the time to share her insights and her kindness with them.

During a recent unit on electricity, students in Mrs. Kathy Russ' class at Walton Middle School made Wiggle Bots to demonstrate complete circuits.  Students will also be conducting labs with the Wiggle Bots on voltage, insulators, conductors, and wavelengths.  Not only that, but they will complete an engineering challenge to determine how fast the bots will go to win races, drawing and creating solutions.  What a fun way to learn about electricity in Mrs. Russ' class!
