Student Dress Code
A student's wearing apparel and grooming shall be the responsibility of the individual student and his or her parents or guardian. Dress and grooming shall be clean, healthy, and safe and shall not be permitted to disrupt the teaching, learning environment. Items that when worn together are usually indicative of gang memberships or apparel that contains a message that is obscene, racist, or promotes illegal activities, drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products shall not be permitted on school grounds or at school functions. District-wide dress requirements for elementary students are as follows:
For both male and female students, the recommended wear will be jeans, long slacks, or capris (below the knee). Pants that drop below the waist are not permitted at any time. The wearing of shorts or skirts that approach the knee will also be allowed. Holes in garments above the knees will not be permitted. No leggings, jeggins, or spandex as outer garment, but may be worn under a skirt of shorts of appropriate length. Students may wear t-shirts or polo-type shirts in navy, grey, or turquise blue with WDE on it. Students may wear long sleeves of any color or pattern under their uniform shirt. Jackets may be worn into the building and to PE. Uniform jackets may be worn all day (approved colors with WDE on it). Shoes will be worn at all times. The following shoes are not acceptable: Heelies (shoes with wheels), shoes with cleats, high heels (greater than 1 inch), platform shoes (greater than 1 inch), or bedroom shoes. Hats will not be allowed to be worn in the school building at anytime. Sunglasses, hats and other sun-protective wear will be allowed to be worn outside only.
