Bay Elementary would like to congratulate the February Students of the Month. Reese Whitehead and Gip Crye have been selected to represent BES as the Kiwanis Students of the Month. Submitted by Cindy Stewart.

On January 31st, Dr. Alexis Tibbetts, SWHS Principal, and James Ross, SWHS Assistant Principal, facilitated a session on Courageous Conversations offered through the PAEC SAIL Academy.  This program is for those educators who wish to have Principalship added to their State of Florida teaching certificate. Some of the topics that participants learned about were classroom walk-throughs, reflective feedback and clarifying action steps.  This was a beneficial experience for those involved. Mrs. Reinke's 8th grade science students recently worked cooperatively to use digital thermometers connected to computers to collect data on exothermic chemical reactions.  After putting vinegar on a piece of steel wool, and the program recorded the temperature every half second and plotted it on a graph.  Students enjoyed this hands-on learning opportunity that combined science and technology. School Board members William Eddins, Gail Smith, Kim Kirby, Marsha Winegarner, and Jason Catalano congratulate the Walton County Teacher School District Teacher of the Year, Kathleen Redfern, and the Walton County School District Educational Support Professional, Sue Brack at an awards celebration on January 24, 2017, at Walton High School. As part of literacy week, VRB students created a human bookworm throughout the hallways. Around 1100 students all joined together in the hallway to read for 20 minutes. All students were "connected" with each other, creating a bookworm. Submitted by Sherrie Binkowski.
