What’s better than getting to play astronaut for the day? Nothing that these Paxton eighth graders can think of after a day at the Challenger Learning Center in Tallahassee where they got to carry out a space mission to Mars. Add to that an awe-inspiring behind-the-scenes tour of millions of dollars in wind tunnels, 3D printers, robots and more cool science tools at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, and it was a banner day. PHS sends a huge thank you to the American Society of Civil Engineers and Space Grant Consortium for their monetary support of this trip. Submitted by Kalli McMillan.

Paxton High School’s AP Psychology class was honored to have the Walton County K-9 unit visit and demonstrate how they use classical and operant conditioning to train their dogs. Students were able to see their vocabulary terms in the unit put into action through the demonstrations and explanations given by the officers. Thank you to Kristin Pond and Kayne, Steve Tector and Drago, and Damon Byrd and Jester for an incredible experience.  Submitted by Kalli McMillan.

Ms Curtis' class at Freeport Elementary recently participated in a study on "author's craft in poetry."  As a culminating activity, Mrs. Devine (amazing title 1 tutor) read aloud her story, "Shoop the Sheep" to both of Ms. Curtis' classes during their "Poetry Picnic".
The students were so enthralled!  Mrs. Devine allowed the students to illustrate the way they visualized the poem/story and will use some of the students' illustrations in her book (when it is published).
Here are some pictures of this fun and engaging activity!
